Strong winds buffet sea in Xylokastro
Strong winds buffeted the sea in the coastal town of Xylokastro, near Corinth, yesterday. Northerly winds made for choppy seas across much of the Aegean yesterday with winds reaching up to 9 on the Beaufort scale in parts. Strong winds made life difficult for firefighters on Crete and near Ioannina, northwestern Greece, yesterday, fanning the flames of the blazes which had been brought under partial control by late afternoon. The fire service is to remain on standby today when winds are expected to be strong in many parts of the country.
