Lawyer An­dreas Pot­takis was elected Om­buds­man by Greek Par­lia­ment’s Speak­ers’ Com­mit­tee yes­ter­day. Twenty-one deputies voted in fa­vor of his elec­tion, one voted against and two voted ‘present.’ Pot­takis holds a doc­tor­ate in con­sti­tu­tional law from the Univer­sity of Ox­ford. His father, Yannis Pot­takis, is a for­mer min­is­ter and PASOK deputy. He re­places the act­ing Om­buds­man Vas­sileios Kary­dis, who held the post since Oc­to­ber 2015 when Kal­liope Spanou stepped down.
