Police cordoned off the street in front of the Turkish Embassy in central Athens yesterday following an attack by members of the anarchist group Rouvikonas. Assailants splashed red and black paint on the entrance and threw flyers protesting the alleged crackdown on political freedoms in Turkey in the wake of the attempted coup. Police arrested 11 suspects over the incident, including a Spaniard. All were later released. Turkish Ambassador to Athens Kerim Uras condemned the attack in a tweet, saying ‘the Athens anarchists are supporting the antidemocratic coup in Turkey!’
