Baby girl air­lifted to Athens

A 20-month-old girl was trans­ferred from Crete to Athens on board a Greek Air Force plane late Wed­nes­day in or­der to un­dergo surgery after be­ing at­tacked by a Rottweiler ear­lier in the week. The tod­dler sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries fol­low­ing the at­tack by the Rottweiler, re­port­edly a fam­ily dog, in Aghios Niko­laos. She was treated at two lo­cal health fa­cil­i­ties be­fore doc­tors deemed it nec­es­sary for her to be trans­ferred to Athens’s Aghia Sophia Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal for eye surgery. Ear­lier this month, four of the eight Rottweiler dogs seized from their owner after two of them fa­tally in­jured a 5-year-old boy at an Easter gath­er­ing, were eu­th­a­nized. An­other two dogs are also to be eu­th­a­nized while two younger Rot­tweil­ers are ex­pected to be adopted by a pro­fes­sional dog trainer.
