Baby girl airlifted to Athens
A 20-month-old girl was transferred from Crete to Athens on board a Greek Air Force plane late Wednesday in order to undergo surgery after being attacked by a Rottweiler earlier in the week. The toddler sustained serious injuries following the attack by the Rottweiler, reportedly a family dog, in Aghios Nikolaos. She was treated at two local health facilities before doctors deemed it necessary for her to be transferred to Athens’s Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital for eye surgery. Earlier this month, four of the eight Rottweiler dogs seized from their owner after two of them fatally injured a 5-year-old boy at an Easter gathering, were euthanized. Another two dogs are also to be euthanized while two younger Rottweilers are expected to be adopted by a professional dog trainer.
