Giorgos Stathakis (r) yesterday withdrew controversial regulations in the public contracts bill that allowed for the direct concession of projects – sidestepping the tender process – by slicing them into smaller contracts. The issue, highlighted by Kathimerini, was raised yesterday by opposition MPs at Parliament’s joint meeting of the Production and Commerce and the Public Administration committees. The bill debated had originally provided that public contracts worth up to 20,000 euros could be directly conceded without a tender, including parts of larger contracts.
