A team of 30 firefighters manning 15 engines was dispatched yesterday afternoon to douse a blaze that broke out near the western port of Patra, in the industrial area of Peristera. A water-dropping aircraft aided firefighting efforts on the ground, which were hampered by strong winds. By late evening, firefighters had partially contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to residential areas. Earlier in the day, firefighters were sent to another blaze that broke out on forestland in the area of Kalyvia, southeast of Athens. A total of 30 firefighters and 10 fire engines were dispatched to the location, while two water-dropping plans and two helicopters aided the effort from the air. The blaze had been contained by yesterday evening.
