As self-styled anarchists scale up their activities in Athens, anarchist group Rouvikonas (Rubicon) yesterday called for protests during a scheduled visit to Greece on November 15 by US President Barack Obama.

“Let us give the president of the USA the welcome that he deserves,” the group said in a statement posted online. “Submission, passivity comes at a cost,” it said. “Faced with the worst that is to come, submission means collective suicide. Everyone on the streets. Solidarity is the weapon of the people.”

Rouvikonas has been linked to many acts of vandalism on public property, including smashing Athens metro ticket machines and a paint attack on the Turkish Embassy.

Christiana Hatzigiorgi, director of the CT scan department at Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital in Athens, is seen at a presentation of an MRI simulator produced by Bayer Hellas in cooperation with the Floga parents association of children with cancer. The device is meant to familiarize young patients with the process.
