GSEE calls for Dec 8 strike

The pri­vate sec­tor work­ers’ union, GSEE, yes­ter­day called a 24-hour strike for De­cem­ber 8 to protest the gov­ern­ment’s on­go­ing aus­ter­ity drive.

In a state­ment, GSEE called for mass ral­lies on the same day, ap­peal­ing to work­ers to back its mis­sion to “put an end, once and for all, to the crim­i­nal mea­sures that are be­ing im­ple­mented and those which are be­ing planned, con­demn­ing ev­ery Greek fam­ily to poverty and wretched­ness.”

The civil ser­vants’ union, ADEDY, is also plan­ning ac­tion in the com­ing weeks, start­ing with a morn­ing work stop­page on Novem­ber 9.

Ear­lier this week, the union of Greek sea­men, PNO, called a 24-hour strike for Novem­ber 24 to protest pen­sion cuts.
