Police deny leader’s claim members are still at large
Senior ranking police officials have denied a claim by the jailed leader of the disbanded November 17 urban terror group that there are still eight members at large. “All those participating in the organization’s activities have appeared in court,” officials reportedly said yesterday. In a letter to the Ethnos newspaper yesterday, Alexandros Yiotopoulos also claimed that there had been a gun in a N17 hideout that was raided by police in 2002, which implicated a certain individual but which mysteriously disappeared. He said the gun could have been spirited away either by members of Greece’s secret services or by one of the detainees collaborating with the police. Former conservative Public Order Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis said in a Facebook post that the case file must be reopened. “The Yiotopoulos letter, to the degree that it is reliable, confirms the suspicions that we have had at New Democracy for years,” he said.
