EU agrees screen­ing process for tax havens

BRUS­SELS (Reuters) – Euro­pean Union fi­nance min­is­ters agreed yes­ter­day how to screen coun­tries for a blacklist of tax havens across the world, of­fi­cials said, and said ap­ply­ing zero-rate taxes was not nec­es­sar­ily a fac­tor, prompt­ing an out­cry.

Round-the-clock in­spec­tions. At the Thessaloniki Tax Forum on Mon­day Gen­eral Sec­re­tary for Pub­lic Rev­enue Gior­gos Pit­silis an­nounced the cre­ation of per­ma­nent squads of tax in­spec­tors to be ac­tive around the clock, seven days a week, in a bid to wipe out tax eva­sion by busi­nesses.
