N17 polic­ing to close roads as strikes dis­rupt ser­vices

Mo­torists are ad­vised to avoid the city cen­ter today as 4,000 po­lice of­fi­cers are to be de­ployed as events get un­der way to com­mem­o­rate the an­niver­sary of a stu­dent up­ris­ing against Greece’s junta in 1973. Ser­vices on the Athens metro, tram and elec­tric rail­way (ISAP) will be sub­ject to dis­rup­tions from to­mor­row as staff de­mand­ing job se­cu­rity hold rolling walk­outs. There will be no ser­vices from noon to 4 p.m. Next Mon­day, Novem­ber 21, there will be no ser­vice be­fore 10 a.m., on Wed­nes­day there will be no ser­vice from noon to 4 p.m. on the metro and tram while ISAP will run as nor­mal. Next Thurs­day there will be no ser­vice on ISAP af­ter 9 p.m., next Fri­day ser­vices will be sus­pended on the metro and tram be­fore 10 a.m. and next Satur­day ISAP will stop at 9 p.m.
