Centrists reeling as MP quits
Centrist Potami was licking its wounds yesterday after another lawmaker, Katerina Markou, announced she was leaving the party because she was “suffocating” with the refusal of its leader Stavros Theodorakis to cooperate with other parties. In a letter to Theodorakis, she said she will go it alone as an independent MP. “The moment demands a realistic examination of the situation, as society is on its knees and any reservations regarding political alliances and collaborations, wherever they come from, carry little significance given that the country’s survival is at stake,” she said. Her departure leaves the party with eight MPs in Parliament. Iason Fotilas quit the party last month.
