No services for two days as seamen stage walkout
Greece will be without any ferry services for two days after the Seamen’s Union (PNO) called a 48-hour strike starting at 6 a.m. on Friday and ending Sunday morning. PNO has warned of an escalation of action if the government does not address its concerns regarding planned changes to special tax regulations relating to workers in the sector. The Seamen’s Union has already planned a 24hour strike for Thursday, December 8. The umbrella union representing Greece’s private sector workers, known by its acronym GSEE, has also called a 24-hour strike for December 8 to protest the government’s ongoing enforcement of austerity measures at the behest of creditors and several trade unions are expected to join in the action on that day.
