The pub­lisher of the Para­poli­tika news­pa­per and its ed­i­tor in chief will stand trial to­mor­row on charges of defama­tion af­ter a law­suit filed by De­fense Min­is­ter Panos Kam­menos, who is also leader of the In­de­pen­dent Greeks party. The pa­per had claimed in an ar­ti­cle pub­lished on its web­site (para­poli­ that Kam­menos had gone on a ski trip in the Aus­trian Alps over the Christ­mas hol­i­day sea­son. Leav­ing the court­house where the hear­ing was held, the pub­lisher, Yian­nis Kour­takis, said it felt like he was liv­ing in a mil­i­tary dic­ta­tor­ship, while the ed­i­tor, Panayi­o­tis Tzenos, said the af­fair re­minded him of the au­thor­i­tar­ian rule of Turk­ish Pres­i­dent Re­cep Tayyip Er­do­gan.
