The is­land of Crete was jolted by a quake mea­sur­ing 5.4 on the Richter scale late Wed­nes­day. Ac­cord­ing to the Athens Geo­dy­namic In­sti­tute, the quake oc­curred un­der the sea at a depth of 60 kilo­me­ters, 37 kilo­me­ters east of the town of Siteia, and 71 kilo­me­ters south­west of Karpathos is­land. The tre­mor was felt through­out east­ern Crete and on the is­lands of Ka­sos, Karpathos and Rhodes. No dam­age or in­juries were re­ported.
