Eth­nic ori­gin of mi­grants has changed

The na­tion­al­i­ties of mi­grants ar­riv­ing in Greece via the eastern Aegean is­lands over the last few months have been steadily chang­ing, ac­cord­ing to the lat­est data.

From Novem­ber last year to Fe­bru­ary 16 this year, 4,793 peo­ple ar­rived by sea from the Turk­ish coast – 598 from Al­ge­ria, 421 from Congo, 386 from Pak­istan, 119 from Morocco, 104 from Cameroon, 68 from Bangladesh, 45 from Nige­ria and 22 from Sierra Leona.

Kos is a case in point, with 95 per­cent of mi­grants on the is­land be­ing of Pak­istani ori­gin.
