Fewer end­ing up in pris­ons

The in­car­cer­a­tion rate in Greece fell 18.8 per­cent be­tween 2014 and 2015, ac­cord­ing to the Coun­cil of Europe An­nual Pe­nal Statis­tics (SPACE), which were pub­lished yes­ter­day.

The SPACE re­port also noted that over­crowd­ing eased in Greek pen­i­ten­tiaries, where av­er­age prison den­sity (to­tal num­ber of pris­on­ers in re­la­tion to ca­pac­ity as a per­cent­age) fell from 121.4 to 97.6, in con­trast to Moldova (with 96.5 in 2014 com­pared to 117 in 2015) and Turkey (95.9 and 101.3).
