Police free 23 migrants, detain alleged abductor
Police yesterday released 23 undocumented migrants who had been held captive in a warehouse in Dendropotamos, Thessaloniki, and detained the 26-year-old man believed to have been demanding a fee from their relatives for their release. According to officers, the migrants – 21 Pakistani nationals and two Bangladeshi men – were in good health despite their ordeal. The 26-year-old suspect is said to belong to the local Roma community. He is said to have demanded between 1,500 and 3,000 euros per hostage from their relatives. The raid on the warehouse followed a complaint by two of the men’s relatives.
