Fire service battles flames as Mani blaze flares up again
army helicopter reloads with seawater yesterday as firefighters sought to curb the rekindling of a blaze in eastern Mani in the Peloponnese. More than 120 firefighters were dispatched to the area to fight the blaze and stop the flames spreading to residential areas. The regional fire service has been stretched to its limits fighting a series of blazes since Saturday that have caused damage but no injuries. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visited the fire brigade’s special operations unit at the Elefsina Air Base in western Attica to express his support for the firefighting effort.
