A man spray paints a slogan on a window at the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) in central Athens yesterday during a protest by workers in the tourism and food service sectors. Unions representing employees in the two sectors called a 24hour strike yesterday, accompanied by a peaceful march through downtown Athens, to protest lax enforcement of labor laws. Despite tourism being a major money earner for Greece, unions say tourism and catering workers are among the lowest paid in the country and that job protection regulations are frequently ignored.
