The National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades is a nature reserve for marine life in the Mediterranean Sea. The park is especially known for its protection of one of the most endangered mammals in the world – the Mediterranean monk seal. In addition to the wildlife, visitors can also see archaeological finds in the area, such as shipwrecks and old monasteries. An environmental program titled “The School of the Monk Seal” is also available for young children during the summer months at the MOm (Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal) Information Center on Alonissos.
