Cen­ter-left can­di­dates brace for Sunday’s lead­er­ship vote

Cam­paign­ing by can­di­dates for the lead­er­ship of the new cen­ter-left party of­fi­cially ends tonight, two days be­fore elec­tions take place on Sunday, with speeches by the leader of To Po­tami Stavros Theodor­akis at Zappeion Hall in Athens and PASOK MEP Nikos An­droulakis at the Vel­lidio Con­fer­ence Hall in Thessaloniki.

In the event that none of the can­di­dates musters a 51 per­cent ma­jor­ity, a sec­ond bal­lot will be held on Novem­ber 19.

Apart from Theodor­akis and An­droulakis, the can­di­dates are Demo­cratic Align­ment (PASOK) leader Fofi Gen­ni­mata, Athens Mayor Gior­gos Kami­nis, for­mer PASOK min­is­ters Yian­nis Ma­ni­atis and Yian­nis Ragousis, the leader of the Union of Demo­cratic Na­tional Re­form move­ment (EDEM), Apos­to­los Pon­tas, the for­mer dean of the Athens Univer­sity of Eco­nomics and Busi­ness, Con­stanti­nos Gat­sios, and prom­i­nent en­tre­pre­neur Dim­itris Tzi­o­tis.
