Ex-min­is­ter, writer dies at 88

Jour­nal­ist, au­thor and for­mer PASOK min­is­ter Yiannis Kapsis died yes­ter­day morn­ing. He was 88. He was ed­i­tor in chief of Ta Nea news­pa­per from 1974 to 1982 be­fore serv­ing as deputy for­eign min­is­ter in the So­cial­ist gov­ern­ment of An­dreas Pa­pan­dreou un­til 1987. Dur­ing his term of of­fice, he ne­go­ti­ated the well-known mora­to­rium be­tween Greece and Turkey and han­dled the cri­sis be­tween the two coun­tries in 1987. He was the fa­ther of prom­i­nent jour­nal­ists Pantelis and Mano­lis Kapsis.
