The restora­tion of a his­toric 19th cen­tury sin­gle-arch stone bridge in Arta, northwestern Greece, that col­lapsed in flood­ing in Fe­bru­ary 2015, is pro­gress­ing apace af­ter the foun­da­tions were com­pleted yes­ter­day. The 5.5-mil­lion-euro restora­tion of the Plaka Bridge, which spans the Arachthos River and was a feat of en­gi­neer­ing at the time of its con­struc­tion, is ex­pected to pick up now that this cru­cial ini­tial phase has been com­pleted, and au­thor­i­ties ex­pect to re­open it to the pub­lic in spring.
