Suriname, St Maarten confirmed for next month’s boxing card

-

The boxing associations of Suriname and St Maarten have confirmed their participation for the BrisMac boxing card scheduled to be held February 19 at the National Gymnasium.

This is according to President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle.

Ninvalle also told Stabroek Sport yesterday that the Seon Bristol and Alford McDonald promoted event “will put some fuel into the developmental drive of amateur boxing in Guyana.”

He added that there is also a high possibility of Trinidad taking part in the first local boxing event for 2017.

Ninvalle said that once Trinidad participates, they will be sending a heavyweight to match gloves with Jason ‘AK47’ Barker who is shortlisted to compete at the Islamic Games in Azerbaijan in May.

Barker, who is currently one of the best amateur prospects, won a gold medal at the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament in Barbados last month.

Fellow gold medalists at the tournament, Desmond Amsterdam (middleweight) and Joel Williamson (lightweight) are also shortlisted for the Games.
