Independen­ce 5K Health & Fitness Walk and 5 and 10K run on today

Following the success of the Guyana Golden Jubilee Independen­ce 5K Health & Fitness Walk and a 5K run last year, the organizers will team up again today to stage the sequel.

The Rising Star Track Club in collaborat­ion with the Ministry of the Presidency along with the Guyana Community of Service and a host of sponsors will collaborat­e to stage the event to commemorat­e the nation’s 51st year of Independen­ce.

The activity will commence and conclude at the Square of the Revolution (Cuffy). Starting time is 16:00hrs. The Walk and race will proceed along Hadfield Street to Mandela Avenue down Homestretc­h Avenue to finish at the point of origin.

As customary, the fixture is geared towards promoting Sporting Tourism through Health and Fitness.

Last year, the initiative attracted in excess of 200 participan­ts who each received souvenir medals and T-Shirts. This year will be no different. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top finishers for the 5k race.

Billy Horschel, the 2014 FedExCup champion, was alone in second place one shot back at 11-under after birdies at the last three, including a holeout from the greenside bunker at 17 for his 66.

Second-round leader Jason Kokrak, who led by five strokes after firing a 62 on Friday, moved in the wrong direction shooting a two-over 72 marked by a triple-bogey six at the par-three fifth hole.

Kokrak stood tied for third with Day on 10 under par at the Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas.
