Cops to deepen ‘Gangster Roy’ murder probe

-

The police have recently received legal advice in relation to the murder of Roy Roland and recommendations were made for them to conduct further investigations into the matter.

This is according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, who said that the prime suspect, Ezekiel Edward, has been released on bail and is required to report to the police as the investigation continues.

Other information reaching this newspaper revealed that one of the witnesses in the matter has since left the jurisdiction.

Edward, called ‘Kezie’, 27, of Diamond, East Bank Demerara, surrendered to the police on June 12 in the company of a lawyer, just less than three weeks after a wanted bulletin had been issued for him.

Roland, known as ‘Gangster Roy’ of Lot 25 Costello Housing Scheme, La Penitence, Georgetown was discovered dead around 6.30 am on May 17 on the eastern parapet of Marigold Street, with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

His family learnt of his death after someone visited the home and informed of the discovery. As a result, Roland’s father and several other relatives travelled to the scene where they positively identified him.

Persons in the area had recalled hearing what they believed to be the sound of a gunshot shortly after midnight. It is believed that Roland’s killers may have dumped his body from a vehicle.

Several persons were arrested and questioned but later released.
