Di­a­mond Se­condary, Chase Academy win district ti­tles

Di­a­mond Se­condary thrashed Friend­ship Se­condary by 65 runs to win the East Bank Zone while Chase Aca­demic Foun­da­tion snatched a 28-run win over North Ge­orge­town Se­condary (HGS) to win the Ge­orge­town district ti­tle at the Ever­est Cricket Club ground yes­ter­day in the 2017/2018 Guyana Cricket Board/ De­mer­ara Mu­tual Life As­sur­ance So­ci­ety Lim­ited/ Na­tional Sport Com­mis­sion/Na­tional Se­condary School Cricket League (GCB/DMLAS/NSC/NSSCL).

In a 15 overs-a-side af­fair, Di­a­mond, bat­ting first reached 146-7 with na­tional youth bats­man, Mavin­dra Dindyal play­ing another blis­ter­ing in­nings.

He smashed 10 fours and four sixes in mak­ing 85, tak­ing 22 runs off the open­ing over.

Dindyal and Akeem Hen­dricks put on 85 runs for the first wicket be­fore Jonathan Jagdeo re­moved Hen­dricks for nine.

Jagdeo was the pick of the bowler with 3-25 fig­ures.

In re­ply, skip­per Philip McTurk and Josh Charles routed the Friend­ship side for 81 with an over to go.

Friend­ship looked as if they would not reach 50 but a 40-run stand between Sher­ven Henry and Elisha Craw­ford saw their team move from 31-5 to 71 at the end of the part­ner­ship.

Henry added a re­spon­si­ble 32 with five fours and a six while Craw­ford fell for 20. McTurk took 4-10 and Charles 4-13. Ear­lier in the day, Chase posted 117-7 from their 20 overs be­fore lim­it­ing NGS to 89-3.

Tamesh­war Per­maul and Sachin Singh laid the foun­da­tion with 18 and 17 re­spec­tively while Dwain Dick and Or­lando Gid­dings chipped in with cameos of 23 and 19 runs re­spec­tively.

Shivanand Gos­sai took 3-11 and Wayne Bollers 2-26.

In re­ply NGS skip­per Bollers fin­ished un­beaten on 41 while Afe­lie Henry was 19 not out.

Gid­dings and Dick picked up one wicket each.

The East Bank De­mer­ara cham­pi­ons, Di­a­mond Se­condary.
