East Ruimveldt, Charlestown se­cure open­ing round wins

East Ruimveldt and Charlestown won their matches when the girls di­vi­sion of the ExxonMo­bil U14 football com­pe­ti­tion com­menced yes­ter­day at the Min­istry of Education ground, Car­ifesta Av­enue.

East Ruimveldt de­feated Uitvlugt 2-0 with goals from Tamara Men­donca and Keisha Jones in the 15th and 21st minute re­spec­tively while Charlestown edged Verge­noe­gen 1-0 through a Donna Lowe 22nd minute goal.

In the boys di­vi­sion Bux­ton Youth De­vel­op­ers whipped St Ge­orge’s High 60. Olashi Primo crafted a brace in the sev­enth and 20th minute, Tyrice Den­nis tal­lied a dou­ble in the 16th and 21st and Sa­muel Gar­nett scored twice in the ninth and 25th minute. Verge­noe­gen, Friend­ship and Brick­dam were 4-0 win­ners over their op­po­nents. Verge­noe­gen crushed School of the Na­tions’ 4-0 with Kwesi Gill tal­ly­ing a dou­ble in the 12th and 27th minute while Nishawn Li­van and Clin­ton Jones scored in the ninth and 39th minute each. Friend­ship thumped Queen­stown 4-0 with Stephan Harry net­ting a dou­ble in the third and 30th minute while Prince Forde and Paul Roberts scored in the 13th and 38th minute re­spec­tively.

In an­other fix­ture, Brick­dam brushed aside St. John’s Col­lege 4-0 with Car­los Agard bag­ging a hat-trick in the 11th, 15th and 35th minute.

Akeem Henry com­pleted the vic­tory with a 28th minute con­ver­sion.
