Boys camp held at Bagotville

-

The Rotary Club of Stabroek last month partnered with the Peace Corps Guyana to host Bagotville’s first CAMP BRO project at the Bagotville Community Centre.

A release from the club said that the concept of Camp Bro developed by the US Peace Corps Guyana is a project to develop character in young boys.

It was initially implemented as a one day camp for boys aged 9 to 14 year old, aimed at making a significant impact in their social lives. A total of 26 boys attended the sessions, almost all having never been exposed to the topics in such an interactive way.

The aim of the camp, the release said was to introduce ideas about emotional health, planning for the future, and proper treatment of women.

Three group sessions were facilitated where the boys rotated their positions in each group.

At the end of the sessions, the release said that the boys developed posters depicting the new information that they learned, to be displayed in the community with a promise to share this knowledge in their neighbourhoods.

Peace Corps Volunteers Anthony Skow, Rachel Ivancie, Germinal Inal Destine, Chantelle Comeau and Amaar Abdelgadaar facilitated all of the sessions.

As the project’s main funding partner, the Rotary Club of Stabroek intends to continue collaborating with Peace Corps Guyana to strengthen this activity, the release said.
