Gun attack on family: T&T Businessman killed, daughter wounded

(Trinidad Express) A gunman on a bicycle shot dead a Chaguanas businessman and wounded his daughter yesterday.

Joey Basdeo, owner of Joey and Laura Wholesalers of Enterprise Street, Enterprise, was shot multiple times in the upper body at around 2.30pm.

Police said Basdeo was driving his vehicle out of Ruben Street, Enterprise, when the gunman pulled alongside on a bicycle. He opened fire on Basdeo, who lost control of the car.

Basdeo’s wife and daughter were seated in the back seat. The child was grazed by a bullet, but his wife was unharmed.

Police said the father and daughter were taken to the Chaguanas Accident and Emergency department where Basdeo died. The child was treated and discharged. Central Division police locked down the area as officers searched for the bicycle shooter.

Police are asking residents with closed circuit cameras to assist by providing the footage to investigators.
