Per­maul, Ruther­ford lead Guyana into fi­nal

Left -arm spin­ner Veerasammy Per­maul copped his sec­ond con­sec­u­tive man of the match award, while young and ex­cit­ing all-rounder Scher­fane Ruther­ford smashed an even fifty to carry Guyana to a low scor­ing four-wicket win over Ja­maica in the on­go­ing An­tigua and Bar­buda Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion T20 In­de­pen­dence Cup in An­tigua.

Ja­maica bat­ting first, were bun­dled out for 105 with Ama­zon War­rior Steven Tay­lor top scor­ing with 39, while Fabian Allen made 18. Per­maul, who is en­joy­ing a good time, snared 3 for 8 from his full quota to sti­fle the Ja­maicans, as Ri­cardo Adams in his come­back out­ing for Guyana took 2 for 7 from three overs to com­ple­ment his se­nior coun­ter­part.

Guyana then reached their tar­get in 19.2 overs, as Ruther­ford carved out his maiden fifty in na­tional colours, while Robin Bac­chus con­trib­uted 28, as Guyana fin­ished on 106 for 6.

Seamer Odean Smith picked up three wick­ets in a los­ing cause.

With Guyana as­sured a place in the to­mor­row’s fi­nal af­ter end­ing atop the group, they will now await the win­ners of the Ja­maica / An­tigua and Bar­buda fix­ture set for this evening.
