Another power shut­down slams GPL

At ap­prox­i­mately 4.02 pm yes­ter­day, the Guyana Power and Light said that de­fec­tive line hard­ware on a feeder out of its Kingston 2 Plant re­sulted in a fault that tripped the feeder.

In at­tempt­ing to re­power the af­fected area, the sever­ity of the fault re­sulted in a shut­down of the Kingston 2 Plant and sub­se­quent shut­down of the De­mer­ara Ber­bice In­ter­con­nected Sys­tem.

Restora­tion ef­forts com­menced im­me­di­ately with power be­ing re­stored in­cre­men­tally com­menc­ing at 4.14 pm. The last area was re-pow­ered at 4:55 pm.

GPL said it re­gret­ted the in­con­ve­nience caused. The shut­down was the lat­est in a se­ries that has hit GPL in re­cent months.
