A hand­shake be­fore death

(Trinidad Ex­press) Co­corite res­i­dent Sayid Cal­len­der was shot then stabbed af­ter be­ing ap­proached by two men, one of whom greeted him with a hand­shake.

The killing of Cal­len­der, 21, which hap­pened at around 6.15p.m. on Sun­day is be­ing de­scribed as an ex­e­cu­tion.

Of­fi­cers say that Cal­len­der was lim­ing with some friends along Co­corite Ter­race, when they were ap­proached by two men.

One of the men called out Cal­len­der’s name and reached out to shake Cal­len­der’s hand in a greet­ing. Then the shoot­ing be­gan.

Cal­len­der was shot mul­ti­ples times then stabbed re­peat­edly in the up­per body.

Res­i­dents rushed the 21-year-old to the St James Dis­trict Hospi­tal where he was treated, be­fore be­ing trans­ferred to the Port of Spain Gen­eral Hospi­tal.

He died two hours later.
