Cevons’ Waste em­ploy­ees nabbed at­tempt­ing to smug­gle contraband into Lusig­nan Prison

to Pris­ons Di­rec­tor, Glad­win Sa­muels a black bag with sev­eral packs of cig­a­rettes along with other pro­hib­ited items, sus­pected to be mar­i­juana, in black plas­tic bags and sealed with brown scotch tape were found in their pos­ses­sion on Thurs­day morn­ing.

The three men were at the scene to con­duct waste dis­posal ser­vices when they were found, after be­ing searched, with the items con­cealed in a haver­sack.

The waste dis­posal com­pany has since dis­tanced it­self from the in­ci­dent, cit­ing the be­hav­iour of the em­ploy­ees fin­gered as “em­bar­rass­ing” and against the im­age of what the com­pany stands for.

The Lusig­nan Prison is presently hous­ing hun­dreds of pris­on­ers from the Camp Street Prison which was dam­aged sig­nif­i­cantly dur­ing the July 9, con­fla­gra­tion and un­rest.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
