Po­lice hunt­ing taxi driver who al­legedly raped 12-year-old

i n Lin­den, Re­gion 10 ( Up­per De­mer­ara- Ber­bice) are on the hunt for a male sus­pect in re­la­tion to the al­leged rape of a 12-year-old girl, which took place on the evening of Satur­day, Au­gust 12.

Re­ports are t hat t he 12 year- old, who re­port­edly at­tended an event with three of her friends, caught a taxi re­ferred to as a ‘$ 100 dol­lar car’ or ‘ short drop car’ at Coop Cres­cent, Macken­zie, around 22:00hrs in an ef­fort to get to her home at Amelia’s Ward, Lin­den.

How­ever, upon reach­ing the area, the taxi driver re­port­edly passed the stops where the child and her friends were ex­pected to get out. The three friends who were seated i n t he back seat re­port­edly forced their way out of the car, l eav­ing t he vic­tim who was seated in t he front seat and who was wear­ing her seat belt at the time, in­side.

The vic­tim was re­port­edly taken to a ‘back road’ area at Lower Kara Kara by the taxi driver where she was forced out of the ve­hi­cle and sex­u­ally as­saulted. The sus­pect re­port­edly then dropped the vic­tim off at the Kara Kara Bridge where she was left to walk home.

Fam­ily mem­bers of the vic­tim, who were said to be look­ing for her after her friends alerted them as to what tran­spired, then took her to the Po­lice sta­tion, thence to the Lin­den Hos­pi­tal for med­i­cal ex­am­i­na­tion. The re­sults of the med­i­cal ex­am­i­na­tion proved that the vic­tim was sex­u­ally as­saulted. Po­lice re­port­edly took state­ments in re­la­tion to the mat­ter.

How­ever, the sus­pect has been elud­ing the law­men. Of­fi­cers are said to have vis­ited the home of the sus­pect and an area where he fre­quents but he re­mains in hid­ing.
