‘Miss­ing’ Mazaruni in­mate was trans­ferred from Camp Street

31-year-old Mazaruni pris­oner was dis­cov­ered miss­ing on Wed­nes­day fol­low­ing a visit to the Mazaruni Prison Farm, Prison Di­rec­tor, Glad­win Sa­muels has con­firmed.

The fugi­tive has been iden­ti­fied as Vi­jay San­chara who was re­sid­ing at Wak­e­naam, Mo­riah’s Plea­sure, at the time of his ar­rest for wound­ing with in­tent.

He was re­port­edly sen­tenced to 7 years im­pris­on­ment.

Based on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, it was dur­ing a roll call af­ter re­turn­ing from the farm that Prison Of­fi­cers be­came aware that San­chara was not among the pris­on­ers.

The pris­oner- who re­mains at large- was one who was ini­tially held at the Camp Street Prison, but af­ter the July 9 Prison fire, he was trans­ferred to the Lusig­nan Hold­ing area then sub­se­quently to the Mazaruni Prison.

A search for the 31-yearold has been launched.
