Pedal cy­clist killed, struck down by drunk minibus driver

66-year-old labourer is now dead af­ter he was struck down on the Her­stelling Public road, East Bank De­mer­ara on Tues­day af­ter­noon by a drunk minibus driver.

Dead is Basil Ram­bar­ran of Farm, East Bank De­mer­ara.

Based on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, the ac­ci­dent oc­curred around 16:45hrs on the day in ques­tion, while a 44-year-old mini-bus driver of Soes­dyke, East Bank De­mer­ara was pro­ceed­ing South along the western lane of the eastern car­riage­way in his ve­hi­cleBLL4639.

Po­lice re­ports in­di­cated that Ram­bar­ran was uti­liz­ing a pedal cy­cle and al­legedly rode across the road from west to east, when he was struck down. The el­derly man fell to the road side and sus­tained vis­i­ble in­juries. He was later pro­nounced dead at the Di­a­mond Di­ag­nos­tic Cen­tre.

The driver of the minibus was ad­min­is­tered a breath­a­lyzer test and found to “ex­ceed­ingly above the le­gal limit.”

He is presently in po­lice cus­tody as­sist­ing with in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
