Chicken wings

“When I was a kid for my birthday parties, or if I got a good report card at school, or did well on exams, my mum would fry chicken wings. When I got a bit older, chicken wings were what she’d make when my friends came round to watch big sporting finals, or for graduation. I now have an almost Pavlovian response to eating chicken wings. Once I gave up meat for 99 days after my grandmother died as part of the mourning traditions in Vietnam. After those 99 days were over, guess what was the first thing I ate?”
