Lion Cubs Golf Championship 2017
Creating a healthy competitive environment to foster skill development
Lion Cubs Golf Championship 2017 @ National Level was held over nine holes at the Millennium Course of the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) recently. The event saw an overwhelming response of 174 young golfers, all primary school students of 13 years and below from a total of 52 schools. There were 124 competitors from the PC Division and 50 from the Handicap Division. Many were determined to improve on their scores from the previous year while new faces put themselves to the test. The exhilarating event provided an opportunity for participants to meet like-minded players and foster friendships.
Believing that early exposure to competitive golfing will nurture the young golfers’ confidence in their golfing journey, event organiser Honshin Golf Academy aimed to create a platform for aspiring junior golfers to showcase their talents. This was accompanied by the goal for players to emerge from the competition with a greater understanding of their own skills and condition.
Based on a unique scoring system which highlights their physical and mental endurance, players were rewarded for their efforts. There were 16 outstanding players whom achieved Gold with Honours. Also, there were 30 Gold, 41 Silver, and 33 Bronze medal recipients. For them, the biggest achievement was unanimous. It was surpassing one’s own target.
