Golf Asia - - GOLFING INSTRUCTION - WORDS MICHAEL BANNON, WITH CHRIS BERTRAM PICTURES GETTY IMAGES

Even the very best players miss the target sometimes, and that includes Rory. He might have one of the best long games we’ve seen in golf’s modern era but, trust me, he works hard on his short game – because he knows he will need it to win tournaments. Even when he is playing at his absolute best he knows he will need to save par at some point in a round. And of course even when he is finding greens in regulation, he still needs to putt well. If you can turn three into two like he often does – or perhaps four into three if your short game is a really weak part of your game – your scores will plummet. Over the next few pages, I’ll give you little tips to help you chip better, escape bunkers more proficiently and hole more putts.
