FOR FLYING BAE Hawk T1
Top speed: 622mph Cost: £2.5 million
Power unit: Rolls-royce Turbomeca Adour jet
Features: The Red Arrows switched to the Hawk in 1979. This “old-school” jet doesn’t have the complicated electronics of a modern fighter like a Typhoon, which would kick-in to prevent many of the aerobatic moves. Red Arrows’ Hawks are modified with an uprated engine and a modification to enable smoke to be generated; diesel is mixed with a dye and ejected into the exhaust to produce the famous red, white or blue smoke.
