A new book sur­veys Yves Saint Lau­rent’s six col­lec­tions for Dior and pays homage to Saint Lau­rent’s mas­ter and men­tor

YVES SAINT LAU­RENT once said: “I wish to pay trib­ute to those who have in­flu­enced me, who have guided my ac­tions and who have been my role models; and first and fore­most to Chris­tian Dior, who was my mas­ter and the first to re­veal to me the se­crets and mys­ter­ies of haute cou­ture.”

To mark the 70th an­niver­sary of the found­ing of the House of Dior, pub­lisher As­souline is re­leas­ing a se­ries of books about the seven de­sign­ers that have steered the house. The first book, Dior by Chris­tian Dior, was pub­lished last year. The sec­ond, Dior by Yves Saint Lau­rent 1958-1960, about the founder's suc­ces­sor, has just been re­leased.

The book's au­thor is jour­nal­ist Lau­rence Be­naïm, an au­thor­ity on the cou­turier. Be­naïm has writ­ten sev­eral books in­clud­ing a Saint Lau­rent bi­og­ra­phy. Her lat­est opus ex­am­ines Saint Lau­rent's spell work­ing for Dior and the six col­lec­tions he de­signed for the house.

Con­tem­po­rary doc­u­ments and pho­to­graphs and mod­ern images by Laziz Ha­mani il­lus­trate what in­spired and in­flu­enced Dior de­signs be­tween 1958 and 1960.
