BRYANBOY

INTERNATIONAL FASHION BLOGGER

-

DIVINE LEE, IN A TWEET TO @BRYANBOY, REVEALED THAT DURING A FLIGHT, A STEWARDESS ASKED HER WHERE SHE WAS FROM. REPLYING, “THE PHILIPPINES,” THE STEWARDESS THEN QUIPPED, “OH, WHERE BRYANBOY IS FROM.”

The internationally renowned fashion blogger rubs elbows with Anna Wintour and Anna dello Russo, traveling the world as a Jil Sander- and Prada-clad fashion Pied Piper. Eight years old and counting, bryanboy.com is not so much a blog as it is a persona.

Bryanboy understands the perception an impeccable outfit creates, “I see fashion as a tool, like a self-enhancer, that anyone, regardless of their background, can use to improve their quality of living. Using the power of clothing, accessories and appearance to change one’s life is something I find fascinating. Fashion is also a form of art that enables people to play a character, to express their personality or emotions.”

Through fashion, the boy who used to be Bryan Grey Yambao has turned into an international phenomenon. Bryanboy shares, “Influencing my readers has never been part of my agenda since day one. The idea of deliberately trying to change how readers think (as if they’re not capable of having their own opinions) is a dish not served on my menu. I simply want to bring my readers to my world, entertain and take them to new places.”

A lot may have changed since his online hobby has turned into a style altar (where fashion gods are either edified or smashed) but Bryanboy admits, “Supporters have always been supporters, detractors have always been detractors. Trying to please everyone is a complete and utter waste of my time when it’s far more important to focus on the people who matter in my life.”

This may be the age of the blog but for Bryanboy, the strategy has always been as simple as putting together an outfit, “Stick to your vision. Don’t be a prisoner to what you have done but focus on what you’ll do next.” After all, fashion, like Bryanboy, is always about what’s next.—MY
