Tatler Dining Guide - Hong Kong
Golden Leaf
HK$650 per person
Upon entering Golden Leaf, you’re met with rich hues of crimson and gold, balanced by rich woods and white tablecloths. Staff are attentive without being overbearing, and are friendly and accommodating. A fellow diner had a peanut allergy and our waiter was diligent in stating whether or not the ingredient was present in each dish, be it in the form of actual peanuts or peanut oil. As for the food, there’s a certain level of quality that one expects from a Chinese restaurant at a reputable hotel, particularly here in Hong Kong. While some dishes certainly meet that standard, when it comes to consistency, unfortunately, Golden Leaf misses the mark. Some dishes, like the char siu and the crab claw with ginger and rice wine, are beautifully executed and have us salivating for more. However, dishes such as the crispy roast duck are, in fact, not crispy and rather dry. The fried rice, which was recommended, was bland and rather soggy. That said, Gold Leaf is still recommended, as long as you know exactly what to order.
