Set in the Altira Macau hotel, Tenmasa invites guests to remove their shoes at the entrance before leading them to their seat in one of the many rooms with sliding doors and smooth wooden flooring. It’s the prime spot to watch the tempura chefs at work, as they set about cooking each piece of fish or vegetable with a timed precision— each piece arrives piping hot, and each time you’ll be recommended to dip your tempura into the salt or lemon juice, depending on the ingredient. While some things could use more finesse—service can be a little absentminded at times, though always well-meaning—Tenmasa remains a firm favourite with families and couples looking for a fun dining experience. The set menus at lunch are great value, offering a wide array of courses apart from tempura.
