Editor’s Note

World Travel Magazine - - Contents - Vishal Jain Editor-in-chief editor@wtravelmagazine.com

This edition finds us in hot pursuit of the latest and most distinctive properties that have opened for business in the last twelve to eighteen months. These magnificent hospitality beacons, framed amongst some of the most dramatic settings in the world, are set to captivate the travel connoisseurs. The Luxury 50 List 2017 holds many surprises. There are some names such as &Beyond Matesi, Four Seasons Private Island Maldives, Ritz Paris and The Peninsula Beijing for instance that one would be certain to find in our Luxury 50 docket. These names stand head and shoulders above the rest simply by their elegance in executing perfection. These are pedigree names that do any luxury list justice. The surprise entries come in the form of boutique properties, with a whole lot of heart. These are properties that take maximum advantage of their location, nature and brilliant architecture and sandwich it with dollops of personalised attention – all leading to inspiring experiences for the guests. Some such examples of these are Casa Bonay Spain, Il Sereno Lake Como, Le Saint Paris, Soho House Barcelona, Thanda Island, Pulitzer Amsterdam, Hotel Eden Rome and The Silo Cape Town. These hotels surprise and delight. What else can one ask for. Welcome to this year’s best in the show - for the newest and exceptional properties in luxury travel.

As a prelude to the winter season, when romance and champagne both run high, we explore 25 romantic experiences around the world that even Cupid would find irresistible! This list is the definitive starting point for researching on romantic getaways, planning for the honeymoon or scouting for locations to pop the big question. Diamonds not included.

Our journey also takes us to the city-states of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. In these tiger cities, we explore the favourite food haunts of celebrity chefs and their go-to street food. The city streets are paved with gold – these chefs help us navigate through the maze.

Our tales in this edition meander along the Douro river and find solace in the coastal town of Porto. Here, we sample excellent vintages & fortified Port wine and relax to music, art and creative renaissance while swathed in the warm rays of the Portuguese sun. An expedition across the deep blue finds us in an old Portuguese settlement in India – Goa. The cuisines, architecture and the laid-back lifestyle seems to have accompanied us on our voyage from old Europe to the Indian sub-continent.

I conclude this editor’s note with the following thought. With perceived chaos all around by mainstream media, travelling is ever more essential. Travelling opens one’s eyes to the ground reality – that inherently, everyone is - by default - friendly.
