PlatAfrica 2017 Goes Min­i­mal­is­ti­cally Bold

PLAT­INUM GUILD IN­TER­NA­TIONAL (PGI) In­dia re­cently pre­sented the win­ning de­signs of PlatAfrica 2017, an an­nual

jew­ellery de­sign and man­u­fac­tur­ing com­pe­ti­tion. This time, the theme “BOLD MIN­I­MAL­ISM” aimed at In­dian mil­len­ni­als – a gen­er­a­tion that is highly in­di­vid­u­al­is­tic and loves to ex­press it­self. Mil­len­ni­als love mod­ernism that is rooted in

tra­di­tion and pre­fer un­der­stated yet dis­tinc­tive de­signs. Four de­sign hooks – new sculp­tural, lin­ear con­stel­la­tions, asym­met­ri­cal sil­hou­ettes, and be­yond deco – al­lowed de­sign­ers to ex­plore the prop­er­ties of plat­inum, which is duc­tile yet sturdy, to cre­ate state­ment pieces. The win­ning de­signs at PlatAfrica 2017 were con­tem­po­rary in for­mat but drew in­spi­ra­tion from In­dian cul­ture. Each piece used the finest at­tributes of plat­inum to bring out the beauty in the de­sign. The win­ning pieces elo­quently cap­tured the essence of the bold min­i­mal­ism theme which is “less is more”. Here are the win­ners in the pro­fes­sional and stu­dent cat­e­gories:
