CARNIVAL OF RINGS

Adorn - - OFF THE SHELF -

UK-based budding designer Akansha Sethi springs a pleasant surprise by presenting an assemblage of gold rings inspired by her visit to the City Palace in Udaipur. The collection is titled Nritya after an Indian art form of expressing a story through one’s hands.

Each ring is special and features the vibrant arayesh (fresco work used to decorate the palace walls and monuments in India). The rings draw cues from speci c rooms of the City Palace. “I found it interesting and unusual,” comments the talented designer. “Each room had a different feel to it, from the colour combinations to the hand-painted motifs on the wall. And just like each room in the palace, each ring tells a different story. The bright colours and delicate motifs from the palace have been represented by the use of semi-precious and precious stones with traditional meenakari work in 18-karat gold vermeil.”

The series of meenkari and gemstone rings is designed with a playful element — some of the rings topped with gems can be upturned as well. It’s fun, it’s enjoyable and it’s likeable art.
