Ethanol Fuel Bus-make in In­dia: Sca­nia Com­mer­cial Ve­hi­cles In­di­aís Team on July 9, 2014 stated that they would like to com­mence the op­er­a­tion of ethanol city bus at Nag­pur. Ac­cord­ing to the min­is­ter, this bus would be avail­able for the start of oper­a­tions within the next couple of weeks sub­ject to the avail­abil­ity of fuel. This ethanol city bus meets the high­est safety stan­dards and emis­sion level Bharat 5 EEV, which re­duces Co2 emis­sions by 70 per cent. Gad­kari also in­formed that re­quest has been re­ceived from Sca­nia Com­mer­cial Ve­hi­cles In­dia Pri­vate Lim­ited, Ban­ga­lore to run ethanol city bus in In­dia us­ing ethanol and bio-fu­els was ap­proved the min­is­ter. ARAI has in­spected the bus at Nag­pur and ex­am­ined avail­able test re­ports and ver­i­fied that the bus ful­fills nec­es­sary con­di­tions of road wor­thi­ness as pre­scribed in the CMVRS1989. Per­mis­sion was granted to Sca­nia Com­mer­cial Ve­hi­cles un­der sec­tion 52 and Sec­tion110 of the MV Act,1988. The min­istry pro­posed to amend rule 115 of the Cen­tral Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles Rules, 1989 by in­sert­ing rule 1150 which will pro­vide tech­ni­cal spec­i­fi­ca­tions in re­spect of Flex Ethanol Fuel Ve­hi­cles. The draft no­ti­fi­ca­tion was is­sued vide GSR 882(E) on De­cem­ber 10, 2014. The min­istry has de­cided to build rigid con­crete roads in­stead of flex­i­ble bi­tu­men roads. Th­ese roads will re­duce life­time cost and also in­crease dura­bil­ity. To fur­ther bring the cost down, the min­istry has called a global ten­der for ce­ment rate con­tracts. The out­come is very en­cour­ag­ing. For wa­ter con­ser­va­tion and bet­ter util­i­sa­tion of in­fra­struc­ture, the min­istry has de­cided to build bridge cum bar­rage on roads wher­ever pos­si­ble. The min­istry has de­cided to trans­plant trees wher­ever pos­si­ble in­stead of cut­ting for build­ing high­ways. So­lar pow­ered toll plazas have been en­vis­aged as a manda­tory re­quire­ment for toll col­lec­tion across the coun­try. Tar­gets & new pro­grammes for 2015-16 Na­tional high­ways to be awarded: 10,000 km Na­tional high­ways to be con­structed: 6,300 km Toll to be col­lected: Rs 6,500 crore Ad­di­tional length to be brought un­der tolls: 2,180 km
